6 Months

October 24th, 2009 by Luke | Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Well it has been just over six months since the last post and, even prior to that, they were scarce.
So lets call it like it is shall we?
TDM’s website is now done.
An archive.
Finished & Done.
We just really haven’t done any TDM related stuff in a while.
It’s not for a lack of caring but eh, we’ve just got other stuff going on.
Feel free to keep up with Scott’s blip.fm account or my own photo or illustration blog or what have you.
Anyways, we’re out.
Later.

St. V

April 17th, 2009 by Luke | Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

I’m finding that while the video by St.Vincent for Actor Out Of Work is a little strange it still some how turns out to be super interesting to watch.
The video however is trumped by the song its self which can really do no wrong right now with me.
I’ll have this song on every playlist for the next two weeks time.
Give it a watch, you shouldn’t be disappointed.

So I fire open itunes, toss on the random shuffle, and sit down to read some news.
About 45 seconds in to this song I happen to be listening to it turns from a normal so-so mix in to a song so catchy I feel like I should be warning all of my current sexual partners(sorry guys) that they might need to see a doctor about the soon to be burning sensation they all feel when they pee.
Then once more at minute 1:15 we undergo yet another transformation as I look at my watch and call it to myself in my own head. The moment the song died to me that is.
The song I’m talking about is HandsInTheAir by GirlTalk.
This really sums up how I feel about ALL Girl Talk songs.
I will say that I really do love PARTS of this dudes mixes, but thats all I can say, is parts.
I’ve never been able to enjoy a full song partly because of the fact that he mixes about thirty seven songs in to one of his four minute tracks.
I have a hand full of issues with Gregg Gillis, or as the neon kids know him Girl Talk.
Issue the first? He says he plays the computer.
The moment some one starts playing the computer as an instrument is the moment that I can market my vomit from behind my eyes as a miracle cure for kidney stones.
Second issue? This guy dances. He gets on his laptop and DANCES.
I mean like he jumps, he kicks, he headbangs and goes all seven different flavors of crazy. This guy gets on stage, or in a dance pit, and fucking dances while ‘playing’ his laptop.
I’m pretty sure because these are all pre-mixed mash ups that all playing really involves is just constantly hitting space bar or enter.
So yes, he gets nuts nuts nuts over a single key that could be pressed once and walked away from for the duration of the night.
Bravo Gregg.
LAST of all is what he did before Girl Talk.
This guy is a freak’n BIOMEDICAL ENGINEER!
Do you know what a BME really is? I didn’t, so I looked to Wikipedia(pregerpedia was down).
Wiki says “Biomedical engineering (BME) is the application of engineering principles and techniques to the medical field. It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to help improve patient health care and the quality of life of individuals.”
Thats some pretty crazy shit to be entrusting to the guy who things hitting enter is a goddamn musical feat. Anyways, thats what I dislike.
Do you know what I do like though?
A lot of his music.
Never really full tracks, like I said before, but parts here and there that he mashes up.
And the parties he throws.
Those things are fucking insane.
The amount of redbulled up disco kids that show up to see this BME/Key-Wizard kick and flail his way through a two hour set is insane.
I might as well ducktape a nine year old and a commodore64 to a paint mixer and set off a strobe light in my garage while listening to all my albums at the same time to achieve the same effect….. Hrm.
Wonder if I could sell tickets?
I also love that people hate this guys music for legal reasons.
People saying that he is a walking law suit because of how many songs he samples is almost as much of a joke as him winning awards for original content.
Both good jokes that both aren’t jokes.

Anyways, I’ve talked about the guy enough, so here is some content from Gre…er I mean Girl Talk.
I really do dig the first minute if this song.
I really do.
But judge for yourself.
And keep a garbage can or paper bag close by.

T&S

I’ve always loved the sound of these two sisters ever since hearing The First way back when and things have only really gone up and up with them in my books ever since.
The indy sounds that Tegan & Sara create have been nothing short of simple beauty so its really good to see that equally reflected now in a music video.
Also, it must have cost all of eight hundred and thirty dollars.
20 for the cord.
10 for the Spraypaint FOR the cords.
800 for studio rental and gear.
…they probably brought their own threads.
It seems fairly accurate.

Lion

March 17th, 2009 by Luke | Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned this track before, but its good enough to mention twice, so here it is.
LION is the single from Melbourne locals ZZZ.
They even have an ep out now and if you’re the type of person who likes to support good artists.
The song Lion is pretty crazy good.
It has this fantastic piano intro which later finds its way back in to the track and is just amazing.
There is a tiny little weird electro-guitar breakout but it never feels out of place.
All and all, this is a great dance track that will be stuck in your head all freak’n day.
And just to ensure that, I recommend listening to it on the drive/bike/walk to work.
Also fantastic is another track available on their myspace called LEONINE.

I can’t think of enough good things to say about ZZZ’s songs, so you really have to check them out for yourself.
And if you dig them as much as I know you will, do them and you a favor and pick up the ep. Show your friends. They’ll flip their shit over it.

Sooooo everyone loves Daft Punk right?
You all know how they are now doing the original soundtrack for the Disney flick Tron 2 right?
Of course you did.
You’re on the internet and you’re not blind or 7… yes.
Well this isn’t any DaftPunk news(hey, the Daft Punk initials are DP…. hrm) but its something pretty cool.
I will also admit that I probably played this a little to loud and a little to late for the likes of the guy who shares a wall with me(suck it up Troy, this is for all the time’s I’ve had to listen to the TMNT dvd menu cycle through the wall all night long.) but its awesome, so he can deal with it.
Click it.
Play with it.
Work It.
Make It.
Do It.
Daft Punk Console.
Its pretty rad fun for a little while.

In more ROCK news, Jack White has a new project out that sounds(and actually SOUNDS) about a hajillion times better than the Raconteurs, and having said that I want everyone to know that I really ENJOY the Raconteurs.
The new team is called Dead Weather and consists of old Raconteur member Jack Lawrence on bass, QueensOfTheStoneAge’s Dean Fertita’s on guitar, Jack White doing drums/vocals and Alison Mosshart of The Kills is the groups frontwoman.
They have one very VERY basic video up you can check out just down a few lines.
Nothing crazy in the video so far like what we’ve seen from White Stripes or the Raconteurs but the song is most certainly solid enough that I hit replay on it a few times over.
Damn you youtube once again and your lack of a repeat check box.

Also it turns out that dinosaurs never went extinct, nor were they ever just dinosaurs *coughtruxcough*
Barely news.

Hey so if you guys haven’t heard Disney is making a Tron 2. That’s pretty awesome right (well kinda, depending on whether you dug or even watched the first one)? You know what makes that even better? Daft Punk has be signed to write the music for it.

“French electronica duo Daft Punk has been signed to write the original music score for Tron 2.0, Walt Disney’s upcoming sequel to the groundbreaking 1982 animation cult hit which was scored by electronic music icon Wendy Carlos.

Daft Punk’s members Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter have been involved in various films before, but Tron 2.0 will be their first complete feature film score. The film, scheduled for a 2011 release, is helmed by Joseph Kosinski and will feature Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett.

According to industry news reports, Tron 2.0 will play as the “next chapter” after the first film, with Wilde starring as one of the heroes trying to help fighting the Master Control Program, the evil intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the 1982 film.

The assignment of Daft Punk to score Tron 2.0 has been confirmed to Upcoming Film Scores by Walt Disney Pictures.”

Probably be something like this but inside a computer and with glowsticks.

Regardless of whether the movie is good or not, it should still sound awesome.

Thanks to signalnoise.com for queuing me, and in turn you guys, in.
